September 19 to 23, 2022

The Institutions Eat Local! event is back for a 4th edition!

Whether at your daycare, school, Cegep, university, healthcare establishment, company cafeteria or workplace, join us in celebrating local foods from September 19 to 23, 2022!

Institutions across Quebec are invited to organize events in their community to promote the importance of discovering, preparing and sampling Quebec products! Last year, more than a hundred institutions joined the movement and nearly 19,000 people took part in the event.

This event is developed by Aliments du Québec au menu – Institution (developed by Aliments du Québec and Équiterre with the support of the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec – MAPAQ) in partnership with Défi 100% local.

Who can participate?

This event is intended for all institutional establishments, both private and public:

Early childhood services (childcare centres and daycares)
Primary and secondary schools
Cegeps and universities
Healthcare establishments
Workplaces
Not-for-profit or community organizations or organizations promoting healthy lifestyles
Companies, suppliers and distributors

Types of activities offered

In previous editions, nearly 300 activities of all kinds were organized across Quebec:

Local harvest menu, culinary workshop, tasting of little-known products: Sharing a meal made entirely from Quebec products with your friends or colleagues is easy!
Thematic activity, colouring, game and fun activity aimed at introducing kids to foods grown right here in Quebec!
Pop-up market, self-picking food, meeting with a farmer: Develop closer ties with the farms and artisans in your region!
Training, conferences, workshops: A great opportunity to explore how we can improve our daily diet and increase our consumption of locally produced food year-round!

We are aware of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on your organizations and of the current situation in various institutional settings. Some initiatives or actions may have to be adapted in order to respect public health rules.

Participation prizes

Participating establishments could be eligible for various prizes* up for grabs for a total amount of $10,000:

Fourteen (14) prizes of $500will be awarded to participants drawn at random.
Two (2) participation prizes worth $500will be drawn at random among the institutions that are members of the Aliments du Québec au menu – Institution program.
Two (2) participation prizes worth $500will be offered to institutions whose activity is selected as a “favourite” by Aliments du Québec and Équiterre.

How to enter the contest?

Establishments must fill in the Activity Description form describing the activity they are proposing as part of this event. In addition to the chance to win a participation prize, the information collected will help promote and enhance the actions you have organized.

The Activity Description form will be sent by email to all institutions that have completed the registration form and will also be accessible on this page the week of the event (September 19, 2022).

A collaborative event

Institutions Eat Local! is an opportunity to develop closer ties with actors in the biofood sector in your region and to learn how you can improve your food procurement. The Tables de concertation bioalimentaire in various regions of Quebec (TCBQ) can help you organize your activity and put you in touch with local farmers and producers.

It will offer several tools and ideas to help you with the organization of your event from September 19 to 23, 2022.

Nous avons fait un menu du jour special local où nous y avons cuisiné des aliments du qc (fruits/legumes/poulet/produits laitiers) nous en avons fait la promotion pendant une semaine avec des affiches

4) Les étudiants du cours Transformer les aliments 1 ont visité les installations du jardin sur le toit du collège. Les récoltes seront utilisées dans la préparation de leurs mets au cours des prochaines semaines. 5) Pour cette semaine, une emphase particulière a été mise sur les achats locaux donc tous les mets préparés et vendus en salle à manger et dans les distributeurs automatiques étaient confectionnés avec des aliments du Québec lorsque possible.
